Introduction

The File List component provides an easy to set up solution to offer multiple files for downloading. As a download source, either single files or entire folders can be added. Within the folders, it is possible to select the desired files by only choosing files that contain a defined tag.

The File List can be configured in its layout and is best used within a Columns component.

Glossary:

Display & Usage

The File List component can display an unlimited amount of files. With its display settings vertical lines or a zebra stripes design can be added and the date can be hidden. This means that it is either displayed in 2 or 3 columns. Above the files, the table Header Labels can be displayed. A click on the file opens it in a new tab where it can be downloaded / stored with a right-click action.

The following File List is set as Display Header, Display Vertical Lines and Display Zebra Stripes inside a Columns component to control the width of the file table. The found files are sorted alphabetically ascending.

The date displayed in the date column refers to the day the file got uploaded to GEM. The file icon in the type column is always displayed, the icon in the name column only for documents. For all other file types, only the file abbreviation is displayed together with the file size.

JPG (491 KB) 26/03/2018
MP3 (3 MB) 26/03/2018
MP4 (496 KB) 26/03/2018
XLSX (12 KB) 26/03/2018

As a source of the files displayed in the File List, either single files can be added to the list or an entire folder can be chosen. If done so, all files of this folder are listed. To filter the files added from a folder to the list, it is possible to set a Filter Tag in order to choose only the files from the folder that contains a defined tag. In the following example, a folder is chosen as a source, but only 2 files are displayed that are tagged with payment.

Displayed File Name and Label options

The displayed name of a file depends on its settings. Every uploaded file is stored under its File Name, e.g. example.pdf. In the Meta Data of a file, configurable in the DAM, it is possible though to add a File Title and for PDFs even a designated PDF File Title. If these are defined, they are displayed instead. So the order of importance is as follows:

In the following example, all variants of Name and Titles are listed. For example for the first file, the PDF Title is displayed because it overwrites the File Name.

In the component, tab Source, it is possible to add the Files Label for every chosen source path. If a single file is chosen, the Files Label overwrites the Name and Titles. If a source folder is chosen, the label is displayed above the files from the chosen folder.

Usage in Columns component

In order to create a File List with a fixed width, it is recommended to always place it inside a Columns component, set with a 1 Columns Layout. Then the Offsets Gird Columns can be defined.

Find some examples below with different Columns Grid Offsets and outside of a Columns component:

Without Columns component

Left Offset = No Offset, Right Offst = 3 Grid Columns

Left Offset = 2 Grid Columns, Right Offst = 2 Grid Columns

Component settings

The File List component is available in the Common Component group in a Standard Content template.

tab: General

In the General tab, the display and styling options can be set.

tab: Source

In the Source tab, the source of the files to be listed is defined. It is possible to define as a source multiple single files by adding each file with the Plus button or also an entire folder, so all files from this folder get listed. Within this folder, only certain files can be picked by defining a filter tag. This means that only files from this folder that are tagged with a certain tag get listed.
