Snippet Content template

create templates for referenced, re-usable components in multiple pages

  • Snippet Reference component
  • separate template with all Common Components

The Snippet Content template serves as template or collection of components that can be embedded by a Snippet Reference component to the Standard Content Template.

on this page:

Introduction

With the Snippet Reference component, it is possible to add referenced content from a source page to any Standard Content Page. The content remains on the source page and can only be edited there. On the target page, where the so called snippets are embedded, they are only referenced to.

If changes are made on the source content, they are reflected on all referenced snippets. Therefore, this component can be used for content that appears identically on multiple pages. The content must only be maintained once though.

As a source, any kind of component from either a dedicated Snippet Content template (recommended) or from any Standard Content Page can be used.

Glossary:

CMS set-up

The Snippet Content template is a dedicated template to produce snippets. It is available as child of the Configuration page. It can be used to produce single or multiple components on one page.

It derives from the Standard Content Page template and therefore offers the identical selection of components. The only difference is the missing header/footer area, as this is not needed.

Editorial hint:

Snippet Content template vs. Standard Content template as snippet source

We highly recommend to solely use the Snippet Content template as snippet sourc because it is possible to order them in a structured way under /configuration and you are always aware of the usage of a snippet. If you reference to any component on a Standard Conent template, it is possible that such a component gets deleted or edited and this of course affects the used component in the Snippet Reference component as well.

Best practice

On a Snippet Content template, all Common and other components are available, identically to the Standard Content template. How such a template is used is completely up to the editor's preference. Possible set-ups include:

  • for every component, create a separate Snippet Content. This way, when using the Snippet Reference component, the page itself can be chosen in the select path dialogue instead of a single component
  • collect simiilar content components on one Snippet Content page. For example put multiple Text with Image components that all contain content about a specific topic or create a page with re-usable Box Filter Container components
  • put components into a Section With Headline component. This way it is possible to add several components (Section With Headline with all its sub-components) with a Snippet Reference component.
