Error Pages - 404 / 500

create error pages if content pages are unavailable

  • HTTP 404 error page
  • HTTP 500 error page

This feature is used to create personalized error pages that are displayed if a content page is not found (404) or if an internal server error (500) occurs.

Introduction

Errors on websites are an annoying but inevitable occurrence. Usually they happen when portal users follow an outdated link (404) or if a server is misconfigured (500). With the designated Error Pages it is possible to set up these 2 individualized pages by using a Standard Content page, meaning that all commonly used components can be used.

The pages are created under the path /configuration, as children of the designated Errors Configuration page.

Display

The display of an Error Page varies from entitiy to entity as the content is created with a Standard Content Page that offers all commonly used components. See the following screenshots from the current set-up of Erstebank AT and Erste Group:

As visible, the default Header and Footer are still displayed on the page. Only the main content is created with the Error Page.

Set-up

The Error Pages for both, 404 and 500, must be created under the path /Configuration, as child pages of the Errors Configuration Page. They must literally be named 404 and 500, whereas the title can be freely chosen (e.g. Page not found - 404).

The Errors Configuration Page itself has no content. It only serves as a node to collect the Error Pages.

Please also see the Errors Confguration Page help pages for further information.

Editorial hint:

Duplicate page

As the Error 404 and 500 page can be set up identically, it is enough to set up only one of them pages and then simply copy and rename (move) the copied page accordingly.

Component settings

As a template for the Error Pages, a Standard Content Page must be chosen. All commonly used components can be used to set up the pages. Best practice from various entities shows that preferrably the following components are used to set them up:

Please see the Standard Content Page help pages for a full list of available components.
