News Date Redirect Pages templates

create the date structure for the News Archive

  • News Redirect Year Page
  • News Redirect Month Page
  • News Day Entry Page

The purpose of these pages is to create the date structure for the press releases in order to create a meaningful URL for each release. Additonally, on the Day Entry Page, the category of a News Entry is set via a Tag.

on this page:

Introduction

The entire News Archive is set up manually by creating the Date structure with designated redirect templates. As a result, each press release is reachable through a meaningful and beautiful URL and only the date paths of existing press releases must be created. This means that for the News Entry of a certain date, a Year, Month and Day page is created. This structure can then be used for every additonal Entry. Additionally, on the Day Entry Page of a press release, a Tag is set to provide the category for the release of this day.

Glossary:

Date structure and usage

All templates mentioned on this page make up the date structure together and can only be used in combination with each other. A proper set-up would be as follows:

  1. Standard Content Page with News Filter Container (named e.g. Press releases) that serves as the searchable News Archive.
  2. Below the Archive, for each year with News Entries, a News Redirect Year Page is created (e.g. 2017).
  3. Below the year, for each month with News Entries, a News Redirect Month Page is created (e.g. 02)
  4. Below the month, for each day with a News Entry, a News Day Entry Page is created (e.g 10)
  5. Below the day, for each language version of a News Entry (if more than one languages are available), a News Content Page is created (e.g. Savings credit forecast Q4)

The set up date structure is then reflected in the URL of a News Entry.

Additonally, the date is displayed in the Archive Teaser of the Box Filter Container...

... and the Timeline Teaser.

News Redirect Year Page

The News Redirect Year Page is used to create the year in the date structure of a News Entry. It is available as child of any Standard Content Page.

To set up the year node, simple add the page (preferrably) as child of the News Archive and name it according to the desired year, e.g. 2017.

The set-up year is then reflected in the URL of the News Entry.

News Redirect Month Page

The News Redirect Month Page is used to create the month in the date structure of a News Entry. It is only available as child of a News Redirect Year Page.

To set up the month node, simple add the page as child of a News Redirect Year Page and name it according to the desired month, always with 2 digits, e.g. for February it would be 02.

The set-up month is then reflected in the URL of the News Entry.

News Day Entry Page

The News Day Entry Page is used to create the day in the date structure of a News Entry. It is only available as child of a News Redirect Month Page.

To set up the day node, simple add the page as child of a News Redirect Month Page and name it according to the desired day, always with 2 digits, e.g. 10.

The set-up day is then reflected in the URL of the News Entry.

Category Tags

Every News Day Entry Page must contain a Tag in order to assign a category to a press release. This category is then passed on to the News Content Pages in multiple languages that are set up as child pages of the News Day Entry Page. They are automatically added as a headline to the News Teasers.

The categories are also used in the News Filter Container in order to make the News Archive searchable and to define a category of displayed News in the Timeline Teaser display. It is possible to add multiple Category Tags to one News Day Entry. By doing so, a press release can be available in various categories.

Tags can be added via the Page Properties of the News Day Entry Page, accessible via a right-click on the page in the Siteadmin Console or in the Page Tab of the Sidekick in the Edit Console.

The Tags are set up as ordinary Tags in the Tagging Console. It is recommended though to set up designated News Tags that are solely used for the News feature in order to have a clear structure.

Please see the Tagging Console help page for more information.

Attention:

Make sure that all News Day Entry Pages contain at least one Category Tag. If it is missed, the News Archive might not display the respective press release. Please also make sure that the Tags are published.

Special use-case: multiple press releases on the same day

On rare occasions, it can happen that on one day, there is more than one press release. In this case, simply name the News Day Entry Page as the day, followed by -1, e.g. 09-1 and tag the page accordingly. The system then automatically recognizes the pattern and creates a separate News Entry.

The name of the second News Day Entry Page is reflected in the URL as is...

...but translated correctly in the teasers.

Search settings

As the purpose of the News Redirect Date Pages is to create the date structure and the pages themselves contain no content, they should not show up in the internal nor the web-based search. This can be achieved by setting the Search Weight and the NoIndex tag in the SEO feature.

If a Redirect Page is called up directly in the browser, e.g. https://www.erstegroup.com/en/news-media/press-releases/2017, it gets redirected to the News Archive Page, if created above the Redirect Pages.

Search Weight

Set the Search Weight of all Redirect Pages to 0%. As a result, the pages do not show up in the internal search. The Search Weight can be accessed in the Page Properties in the tab Basic.

Please see the Search topics help page for more information.

SEO NoIndex

Check the NoIndex checkbox on all Redirect Pages. As a result, the pages do not get indexed by search engine web crawlers and do not show up e.g. in Google. The SEO settings can be accessed in the Page Properties in the tab SEO.

Please see the Search topics help page for more information.
