News feature

create a multilingual & searchable News Archive for press releases

  • News Content Pages for each single press release
  • News Filter Container to create a filterable archive
  • News Filter Container to create a Timeline Teaser display
  • News Redirect pages to create the date structure

The News feature provides a solution to set up a searchable News Archive for press releases. It contains multiple redirect templates to create the date structure, a designated template for the News Detail Page and a Common Component, the News Filter Container, to create the searchable archive itself. The searching is based on individually created Tags.

Introduction

The News feature help page serves as an overview page to combine all necessary steps that need to be taken in order to get a fully functional News Archive. Initially, the set-up can be time consuming, but once it is ready, it can easiliy be used on a daily basis to present the latest news of various categories in multiple languages.

Before you start, please make sure that you have understood the concept of Tagging and know about the different parts of the News feature as described in the glossary below.

News Archive

The News Archive describes the feature as a whole, with all its pages, Tagging and the News Filter Container component. Only if all parts are correctly set up and combined, the News Archive will be fully functionable.

It contains a page with the News Filter Container, where it is possible to search for the press releases and below this page, various pages to set up the date structure (year, month, day) plus the News Detail Page. On that page, the acutal content of the press release and the teasers are set. The Tag for the category of a news is set on the News Day Entry Page.

A proper set-up would look as follows:

  1. Standard Content Page with News Filter Container (named e.g. Press releases) that serves as the searchable News Archive.
  2. Below the Archive, for each year with News Entries, a News Redirect Year Page is created (e.g. 2017).
  3. Below the year, for each month with News Entries, a News Redirect Month Page is created (e.g. 02)
  4. Below the month, for each day with a News Entry, a News Day Entry Page is created (e.g 10)
  5. Below the day, for each language version of a News Entry (if more than one languages are available), a News Content Page is created (e.g. Savings credit forecast Q4)

The News Archive can be set up multilingual by adding for each language provided a separate News Detail Page. The alternative language availability is then reflected in the News Teasers as a language link.

Every article must be categorized. This is achieved by adding a Category Tag to the day page (News Day Entry Page). With these categories, it is then possible to search through the Archive. The Category Tag is then also displayed as the Teaser's headline.

The Archive is usually set-up on a designated subpage such as /press-releases. With the Timeline Teaser feature it is possible to teaser the Archive on any other prominent page, such as the start page. The Timeline Teaser can also be set up with the News Filter Container, simply with a changed Box Type.

News Filter Container component

With the News Filter Container, the Archive's front-end search is set-up. It displays all the Archive Teasers from the provided source. Above the teasers, a set of filters can be set in order to search through the Archive.

Additionally, the component provides the possibility to tease the Archive by setting the Box Type to Timeline Teaser. This setting creates a slidable set of news teasers that lead to the respective News Content Page.

Please see the News Filter Container help page for more information.

On every page that contains the News Filter Container component, an Atom Feed is automatically generated that can be re-used of offered to the customers. The feed is accessible by adding /atom to the page, e.g. https://help.gem.erstegroupit.com/en/settings/news/atom

Please see the Atom Feed help chapter for more information.

The News Content Page is used to create the actual content of the News Entry. It can only be set up as child of the News Day Entry Page. In its configuration, the News Archive and Timeline teasers can be set up.
